Adapted from a five-and-a-half-hour television miniseries, this three-hour biopic from acclaimed director Olivier Assayas (Irma Vep, Personal Shopper) chronicles 20 years in the life of Venezuelan revolutionary Ilich Ramírez Sánchez aka Carlos the Jackal. Édgar Ramírez (The Bourne Ultimatum) stars in the title role as the ambitious, egotistical, yet powerfully charismatic man who founded a worldwide terrorist organisation and raided the OPEC headquarters in 1975 before finally being captured by the French police. Assayas portrays him not as a criminal mastermind but as a symbol of seismic political shifts around the world, and the magnetic Ramírez brilliantly embodies him as a swaggering global gangster.
